    The United Rio Mines Company operated mines and smelters at the town of Rico, Colorado (Dolores County) southwest of Telluride and Silverton within the Rico-Pioneer Mining District. The company was a consolidation of over 200 mining claims, with well-funded investors, including David H. Moffat, Denver railroad and mining magnate. Company mines produced gold, silver, copper, lead and zinc.
    Practically 75% of this company’s capitalization was given for the stock of controlled subsidiary companies. Properties included: Rico Smelting & Refining Company; Colorado Milling & Concentrating Company; Rico Mining & Milling Company; Enterprise Mining Company; Rico-Aspen Mining Company; Black Hawk Mining Company; Rico Townsite Mining Company; Atlantic Cable Consolidated Mining Company; and Security Mining Company. These controlled subsidiary companies, some twenty in all, were capitalized at ,000,000, and the lands embraced were in area about 4,000 acres. The mines had had considerable development and carried gold and silver bearing ores, accompanied by copper, lead and zinc.
